Abstract
In recent years, there has been substantial controversy regarding the diagnosis of pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD) and the continuity of this diagnosis with adult bipolar I disorder (BD-I) and bipolar II disorder (BD-II). A better understanding about the prospective course of youth with PBD (especially prepubertal youth) is critical to address this clinically important controversy. In this Symposium, we present a recent analysis of the Course and Outcome of Bipolar Youth (COBY) study, which assessed the course of PBD in youth and predictors of mania/hypomania in young adulthood.
