Abstract

This paper looks at how the Chinese government perceived the March 1 Independence Movement in Korea and how responded through this recognition. The March 1 Independence Movement not only marked a turning point in the Korean independence movement during the colonial period, but also gave a great stimulus to China in the face of the invasion of Japan. When the March 1 Independence Movement broke out, it was of great interest to the Chinese media and reported with great weight. After seeing the March 1 Independence Movement, Chinese intellectuals recognized that if the Chinese people did not awaken with a wish for Korean independence, they would escape the wrath of the exiled country.<BR> While the Chinese media and intellectuals sympathized with the March 1 Independence Movement and the Korean independence movement, the Chinese government recognized it according to the actual situation and responded realistically. As soon as the March 1 Independence Movement took place, the Chinese government grasped the situation and took steps to prevent its influence within China. Regarding the March 1 Independence Movement, there was a difference between the perceptions of the Chinese media and intellectuals and the perceptions of the Chinese government. The Korean independence movement in the Manchuria stimulated Japan and became an excuse for Japan to intervene directly in the region. So China exchanged information with Japan and jointly dealt with the Korean independence movement in the Manchuria.
