Abstract

A new method for the automated, quasi-continuous measurement of the mass concentration of airborne particles is described. This technique is based on sensing the frequency shift of one or more of the natural resonances of a taut filter disc on which the particles are collected. This constitutes an optimized mechanical resonance configuration in that the resonating body is identical with that of the collection medium, thus minimizing the mass and dimensions of the oscillating element.
