Abstract

The American Heart Association (AHA) recently established the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program to improve the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Physicians required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) will need to demonstrate competency in high-quality CPR every 90 days to maintain certification. Prior studies done in students and the public show deterioration of CPR skills over time without practice. No previous study has evaluated CPR skill retention in emergency physicians.
