Abstract

This study aims at developing the neurosurgical training system using haptic rendering technique based on the biomechanical brain tissue deformation simulation. The tactile sensation of the retraction of the soft material mimic the brain tissue retraction was successfully demonstrated by the haptic device with non deformed tissue surface in graphics. Authors are now working on developing the new three-dimensional finite element brain deformation model for rendering the deformed tissue surface which can be built into the haptic device and the tissue retraction simulator for the future neurosurgical training system.
