Abstract

Objectives: To provide the inexperienced examiner with basic knowledge of ultrasound physics; to underline the significance of procedural methods such as probe, probe protection, probe manipulation and anesthesia administration; to present echoanatomy, semiology and hemodynamic behavior of anatomy and pathology of all organs in the upper abdomen; to establish a safe and credible procedure that minimizes complications and ensures true positive results. Methods: This medical e-book is a multimedia DVD-ROM based teaching file that illustrates the steps taken to perform an ultrasound examining the upper abdomen. A detailed description of organ echoanatomy, the detection of organ disease and their sonographic appearance (based on over 20,000 confirmed cases), color Doppler mapping, are provided in a user-friendly manner. The proper technique is demonstrated step by step. Educational double video presentations including a simultaneous presentation of the real time ultrasound exam and the examiner’s technique from the beginning of the exam till the end. Results: This e-book aims to teach physicians and technologists the basics in ultrasound. Conclusions: User-friendly DVD-ROM based visual teaching guide with step by step instructions on how to perform an ultrasound examination of the upper abdomen and attain the proper formation of US image and credible diagnosis.
