Abstract

In passive control of a plane jet excited by wake of a two-dimensional cylinder installed in nozzle contraction, two distinctive spectral peaks(f_1 and f_2) centered at 1/2 the excitation frequency(fv) were observed in a particular condition of cylinder placement. In such a condition, jet under inharmonic excitation exhibits flapping motion at frequency f_3=f_1-f_2. The choherent structures in a plane jet under inharmonic excitation were studied by means of hot-wire and phase-averaging techniques. The results show that the vortex street at frequency of 1/2fv was formed in the jet under inharmonic excitation, and distribution vorticities in the upper and lower shear layers changed alternatry at frequency f_3.
