Abstract

The alkylation of α-sulfur-containing carbanions is an important reactivity of many different organosulfur derivatives (sulfides, sulfoxides, sulfones, etc.) that is widely used in organic synthesis. The alkylated products may be transformed into a broad variety of functional groups depending on the rich chemistry of the specific sulfur-containing functionality. This review aims to update the alkylations of α-metallosulfur derivatives primarily with halides, sulfonates, epoxides, and aziridines, and illustrate briefly some synthetic applications of these processes.
