Abstract

Treatment for out-of-hospital hemorrhagic shock has traditionally relied on administration of crystalloid solutions and rapid transport. Successful whole blood administration in military settings has led to adoption by some emergency medical services (EMS) agencies. However, little is known about the types of EMS agencies administering whole blood or the types of patients who receive whole blood from EMS.
