Abstract

In The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, a new study by Benedetta Armocida and colleagues offers a timely analysis to improve our understanding of the impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among adolescents aged 10–24 years in the EU.1 Through its use of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019,2 the study is based on well founded estimates of NCD-related morbidity and mortality created by complex modelling. However, the paucity of data—particularly for certain age groups (eg, 10–14 years)—and a lack of disaggregation3 are known limitations to such an approach.
