Abstract

External cavity diode lasers are attractive light sources for many applications in metrology, high resolution spectroscopy and gas monitoring because they have small linewidths and broad tuning ranges in combination with a compact size, a simple handling and a high operation lifetime. By using different near-infrared laser diodes as active material, those systems are tunable over a broad wavelength range. In addition, wavelength tuning without mode hops can be achieved by using suitable resonator configurations.
