Abstract

During 2014, there was no Conference of the Parties, but the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) held its ninth meeting and the Implementation and Compliance Committee held its eleventh meeting. A number of small inter-sessional working groups and expert groups were held both before and after OEWG-9. The Basel Convention still has 182 parties, with no new parties in 2014. New Annex IX entries B3026 and B3027 entered into force in 2014 for all parties that had not notified the depositary otherwise. Benin, Colombia, and the Republic of the Congo ratified the Ban Amendment. None of these were parties in 1995, meaning that they did not contribute to the entry into force number required, which rests at fifty-four of the necessary sixty-six of the original parties present and voting.
