Abstract
Nikolai Roerich managed to combine his great creative efforts as a painter and stage designer, under Elena's guidance, with his uninspiring office work for the Society of Encouragement of the Arts. L.V. Korotkina is most positive that Roerich had known the ancient legend of the Sacred Stone by the time he produced his Treasure of the Angels. She also draws another important conclusion from her research - the painting embodies the idea of the synthesis of religions which would later dominate in his artistic work and religio-philosophical writings. One also knows of Roerich's numismatic collection as well as those of Chinese and Japanese decorative (handicraft) objects. During the decade and a half which had elapsed since he married Elena, Roerich had matured and hardened in ideological clashes with his many opponents and critics. Despite his ill-health, Roerich continued to run the School of Drawing, occasionally visiting Petrograd. Keywords: Japanese decorative object; L.V.
