Abstract

Quran addresses its readers in oratorical style which also varies with different social, economic and political subjects with which Quran deals. One of the linguistic features of Quran is the use of simile and metaphor which adds to the literary and rhetorical beauty of Quran. The use of metaphor increases the effective strength of any speech or prose. In a metaphorical style just a word or few words portray the whole imagery in the mind of the reader or listener. At the same time the reader/ listener also becomes aware of all the contextual details of that speech or writing. For this reason, metaphors are frequently used in literature in general and in Arabic literature in particular. The use of metaphors by Quran has a unique significance. A detailed study of Quranic metaphors opens new horizons of meanings in front of the reader and benefits the reader in many ways. This rhetorical aspect of the Quran has also been beautifully explained by the Mufassireen. The metaphors related to the religious, social and moral aspects of life used in Quran are the specific feature of the word of God.
