Abstract

This chapter reviewed the use of plasma treatment in different textile materials. With the use of plasma treatment, the surface properties of the textile material were changed, and hence different functional effects are introduced, but the material bulk properties may not be affected. Conventional methods use chemicals and water for surface modification, but in the case of plasma treatment, the reaction can be considered to be a “dry” process. Research that has been conducted reveals that plasma treatment could be used as an alternative to conventional methods. In term of sustainability, plasma treatment would be preferable to conventional textile wet treatments for economic, environmental, and social accountability reasons.
