Abstract

Hypoxic ischemic brain injury (HIBI) may result in permanent neurologic injury that manifests as cerebral palsy. There is still a belief among the lay public that HIBI is a major cause of cerebral palsy, hence the high incidence of parties raising medico-legal issues in children with cerebral palsy. In this chapter, we will discuss the major features and potential causes of cerebral palsy, followed by the pathophysiology of HIBI and imaging features of HIBI.
