Abstract

The Gospel, the Archbishop underlines, calls people to social justice. Furthermore, it is the Church's responsibility to provide people with a framework that prepares them to encounter moral decisions and dilemmas on a daily basis. All Catholics have the responsibility to bring social justice issues to the attention of the public. In addition, priests must provide examples through then behavior and must practice what they preach.Peace is another fundamental issue of importance for the Cardinal. He believes that it can be maintained by defending religious freedom but risks disruption when religious freedom is lost. Law, he says, must serve the family in such a way that it defends and protects those values which enhance human life and dignity. Moreover, conflicts arise between law and morality, namely how the two should interrelate, and how inadequate laws should be changed.
