Abstract

In this chapter, the structure, properties, and application of ferroelectric nano-glass ceramics, including titanate-based glass ceramics such as Ba, Pb, Sr titanates, and their solid solutions and especially niobate-based glass ceramics, have been discussed. Among the above-mentioned glass ceramics, the latter nano-structured, transparent glass ceramics containing alkali niobate phases have been given the highest priority, hence the details of their processing, as well as properties and applications, with an emphasis on the experimental methods adopted in their study, have been given the most extensive coverage. This is because of their outstanding properties such as ferroelectricity and electro-optical behavior, as well as the possibility of nonlinear optical (NLO) effect and realization of large second-order NLO response in them. The processing and properties of some nano-structured LaTaO3 glass ceramics have also been discussed.
