3 An Overall Inquiry into the Role Religion Plays in the Strategy of Cultural Development (全面研究宗教在文化发展战略中的地位 与作用)

Abstract

Comprehensive research into the status and role of religion in the strategy of Chinese cultural development will be very significant for the work of building a harmonious society, for the effort to expand the opening-up in concert with globalization, for the increase of comprehensive national strength, for the consolidation of the ruling party's status, and for the maintenance of China's national cultural security. The creation of a harmonious society is a grand strategy and a social engineering project. It requires that all elements in the social structure develop a correlation marked by mutually beneficial interactions, in spite of the fact that there is always one imbalance or another in social development. The effort to detect oddity and variables will help the government, society and religious circles form an explicit consensus and jointly establish the rules of the game.
