Abstract

Because of a shortage of child and adolescent psychiatrists, pediatricians and adult psychiatrists are often the first line of care for children and older adolescents, respectively, with behavioral and mental health issues. We expanded our outpatient mental health experience to provide adult psychiatry (AP) residents and pediatric residents (PRs) with a comprehensive outpatient clinical training experience within child and adolescent psychiatry. The goal of the new curriculum was to expand their insight into the world of outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry and to allow them to play an active role within a collaborative team of providers from different specialties.
