Abstract
Multiracial families include families with parents/children of different races/ethnicities. In 1967, interracial marriage was banned in 16 states, with only approximately 3% of marriages being interracial/interethnic, when the Supreme Court struck down the banning of interracial marriages in the landmark civil rights case Loving vs Virginia. In 2015, 17% of marriages occurred between partners of different races/ethnicities, and 1 out of 7 babies born in the United States were multiracial or multiethnic.
