Abstract

Abstract Alkanolamine derivatives of general formula (1) have been claimed as beta-adrenergic blocking agents. They are prepared by treatment of the oxime derivatives (2) or (3) with a primary amine, or by reaction of the formyl derivatives (4) with a hydroxylamine. The intermediates (2) and (3) are readily prepared from the epoxides (5) by standard procedures. We have recently re-examined the reaction of the epoxides (5) with primary amines as a route to the formyl intermediates (4).
