Abstract

Labor epidural anesthesia (LEA) can block the Ferguson reflex that stimulates maternal oxytocin release during labor. Thus, LEA can increase the need for synthetic oxytocin (sOT) exposure to augment labor. Recent research indicated an association of elevated OR of ASD with higher dose and longer duration of exposure to sOT. Consequently, this study examined possible associations between LEA, sOT dosing, and a diagnosis of ASD.
