Abstract
Prenatal maternal psychological symptoms are associated with several aspects of offspring’s socioemotional development that are themselves predictive of mental health difficulties in later childhood or adolescence. This study aimed to evaluate whether maternal depressive symptoms during pregnancy were prospectively associated with offspring socioemotional development over and beyond the effect of other risk factors, namely maternal age, maternal history of childhood maltreatment, and postnatal psychological distress.
