3.1 Diverse Family Structures: Focus on Divorce and Separation

Abstract

With the significant numbers of divorce and separation among families worldwide, there is an ever-present concern about the risks for negative acute and chronic outcomes among youth. While separation and/or divorce may be linked to unfortunate outcomes and distress, most children do not suffer from impairment. This presentation will provide a review of the varied outcomes of a divorce or separation of guardians on a family unit with a focus on developing youths and opportunities to support the family.
