Abstract

The variable-charge Coulomb-projected Born approximation proposed by Schaub-Shaver and Stauffer is used to analyze the electron-impact excitation of the 2 /sup 1/S state of helium. Differential and integrated cross sections for the transition are calculated and compared with the other available theoretical calculations and experimental measurements.
