Abstract
The title racemate, C12H18O3, aggregates in the solid as translational acid-to-ketone hydrogen-bonding catemers [O⋯O = 2.6816 (17) Å and O—H⋯O = 169°]. The stereochemistry obtained for the side chain arises spontaneously during the synthesis, prior to the hydrogenation that produces the cis ring juncture. Three intermolecular C—H⋯O close contacts were found.
