Abstract
It is shown that in addition to the Jones polynomial (1985) there is another link polynomial obtained from the 2n-dimensional representation of the braid group which is related to the eight-vertex model. The degeneracy of the Jones polynomial, which Birman (1985) pointed out, can be removed partly by the new link polynomial.
