Abstract

For the future fifth generation (5G) communication systems, one of the promising techniques is the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), which applies hundreds of antenna elements for antenna design. However, how to evaluate a good structure of two-dimensional (2D) antenna array for a specific channel environment in designing massive MIMO systems is still under research. In this paper, we first propose a WINNER-based antenna simulator, which can provide the system performance, such as system capacity, under different channel environments and antenna configurations. With the proposed simulator, the connection between the system performance and antenna design can be built. Furthermore, the simulation results for different 2D antenna array analysis in designing Massive MIMO systems are also shown and then we will finally conclude our observations for massive MIMO antenna design.
