Abstract

Recently, as represented for fine ceramics, it is popular to develop new function material using the powder condition. In such material, the mixed condition is very important, since the quality of the molding is greatly influenced. Generally, the mixing is done under agitations and rotation, etc. However, the physical property difference such as particle shape, particle size, and particle density causes separation and segregation. In this study, we carry out the mixing of 2-component powder with density difference using convection under vertical vibration. In order to obtain better and appropriate mixing condition in this technique, it is indispensable to clarify the mixing mechanism and the behavior mechanism of convection in powder layer under vertical vibration. Then, the pressure sensor was fixed in basal plane and sidewall of the two-dimensional container, and the relationship between behavior of the powder layer and pressure condition of the container wall was examined. The clarification of the behavior of powder layer in vertical vibration was tried on the basis of those results. As the result, important factor that decided the behavior of powder layer is the pressure condition on the container sidewall.
