Abstract
Abstract Copper (II) complexes with 2-amino-6-picoline N-oxide (6MA) employing the perchlorate, tetrafluoroborate, nitrate, chloride and bromide salts have been isolated and characterized using spectral methods (i.e., IR, UV-vis and ESR). Variation of the preparative molar ratio of ligand to Cu(II) salt yielded solids having the following empirical formulas Cu(6MA)4X2 (X [dbnd] CIO4, BF4), Cu(6MA)2X2 (X [dbnd] NO3 Cl, Br) and Cu(6MA)X2 (X [dbnd] Cl, Br). The latter two solids yielded unacceptable elemental analyses and probably include some of the Cu(6MA)2X2 compound. The green solids with four ligands per metal ion are CuO4 chromophores and involve little, if any, bonding of the anions to the Cu(II) center. In the remaining solids the anions are coordinated.
