Abstract

In the pig-to-baboon cardiac xenotransplantation model the possibilities for transfusion of blood products are limited. Besides low intraoperative blood loss and short cardiopulmonary bypass time, a low priming volume is essential for a good postoperative condition of the recipients. We designed a novel setup of the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) with a low priming volume to meet the special needs of non-human primate xenotransplantation.
