Abstract

Study Objective Review 75 most recent Minitouch Endometrial Ablation Procedures performed by a single physician. Compare latest outcomes to previously published outcomes. Design Retrospective review Setting Three private hospitals in United Kingdom. Patients or Participants Medical records of the most recent 75 patients who underwent Minitouch procedures and who have been followed up four months post-procedure were reviewed. Interventions Minitouch Procedures Measurements and Main Results Minitouch has been in regular clinical use at our hospitals since December 2015. More than 250 procedures have been performed till date under general anesthesia. Pre-procedure Transvaginal ultrasound assessment was done to assess the cavities as per our standard protocol. After treatment, patients were transferred to a recovery area before discharge. In accordance with our standard clinical practice, the patients are contacted at 4 months post-procedure to collect safety/efficacy outcomes. No adverse events have been reported or observed in any patient. Transition from older techniques to the Minitouch procedure was uneventful. The learning curve was short due to simplicity of the procedure. We are now able to perform more ablation treatments per list. The anesthetists have reported needing less analgesia and anesthesia, and consequently faster patient recovery. Outcomes are available for 57 of the 75 most recent patients who have completed their 4-month follow-up. The analysis revealed 89.5% (51 out of 57) success, defined as zero/reduced bleeding without requiring further medical or surgical treatment and patient satisfaction. These outcomes are comparable to outcomes presented last year (Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology Volume 25, Issue 7, Supplement, Page S119). Conclusion We report continuing positive outcomes and satisfaction with our introduction of Minitouch Endometrial Ablation Procedure as our standard clinical practice. It has provided noticeable improvement in our ablation service from safety and efficacy perspectives. The ability to perform more procedures per session, lowered use of analgesics/anesthetics, and quicker recovery are important benefits in our private hospital setting.
