Abstract

Emergency Medicine Bedside Ultrasound (EMBU) is commonly used by the emergency physician in the civilian emergency department (ED); however, EMBU has been recently incorporated into US combat medical facilities in Iraq. EMBU suits the combat environment well due to its portability, combined with the hospital’s high volume of trauma patients and lack of routine availability of computed tomography (CT). The purpose of this study was to describe the use of EMBU in a combat setting, and determine its accuracy as performed by emergency physicians in a deployed military hospital.
