Abstract

We present a case of doxycycline-induced hyperpigmentation in a 49-year-old male with a history of Hodgkins lymphoma, melanoma, and radiation-induced medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). The MTC was treated with the oral kinase inhibitor, vandetanib. Shortly thereafter he developed pustular acne. This was treated with oral doxycycline and after 6 weeks he developed blue-gray discoloration within depressed acne scars on the face and scalp. This case highlights that shorter courses of doxycycline can induce cutaneous hyperpigmentation that may be irreversible.
