Abstract
Introduction: Meningiomas represent the second most common type of tumor of the brain. Aim: To point that visual evoked potentials (VEP) is significant in cases of optic nerve. Method: Case report of 65 year old woman with loss of vision on the left eye. Results: Over the 2 year period following onset of symptoms ophthalmological examination revealed fixation point outburst over temporal half of the left eye. Few month later right visual loss was 0.7 and left visual loss was 0.4. Neurological findings: left amblyopia, right hipacusia, dysphonia, left PR increased. VEP testing showed left lower amplitude and prolonged latency of 141.5 ms, right answer: 103.8 ms. MRI of the brain registered expansive formation of type meningioma in the left cavernous sinus with invasion of sellar region and smaller meningioma in the right cerebellopontine angle. Neurosurgeon advised the gamma knife treatment of both tumors. After 3 month control VEP recorded improvement in visual acuity (left latency is significantly less, 122.5 ms). Conclusion: Advances in neuroradiology have allowed us to treat tumors with a closer contact to the nerves compared with the past. VEP can be of a great help for better follow-up of the functional recovering process.
