Abstract

This paper proposes a novel subcarrier pre-filtering method to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in the coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) system. It can mitigate the fiber nonlinearity without damnifying the signal waveform or inducing any redundant information. The experiment successfully demonstrates a 277.6-Gb/s low-density-parity-check (LDPC) coded CO-OFDM system over 200-km fiber via a subcarrier pre-filtering technology. More than 4-dB improvement in PAPR is achieved compared with that of the conventional CO-OFDM, and the nonlinear threshold can be improved by 2.1dB at the bit error rate (BER) of 5×10−2.
