Abstract
Total body skin examinations (TBSE) are recommended in high-risk populations. People with disabilities are less likely to receive examinations/screenings. We examined whether individuals with disabilities, adjusting for skin cancer risk factors, differed from those without disabilities in ever receiving a physician-administered TBSE. Using the National Health Information Survey (2010 and 2015), our outcome of interest was lifetime history of physician-administered TBSE, defined as answering “yes” to “Have you ever had all of your skin from head-to-toe checked for cancer by a dermatologist/other doctor?” We examined the following disabilities: mobility, vision, hearing, cognition, communication, and self-care.
