Abstract

SummaryThe introduction of 23‐ and 25‐gauge systems was a game changer for vitreoretinal surgery. Recently, 27‐gauge systems have been commercialized. Only non‐complex cases would be suitable for surgery with the first generation 27‐gauge instrumentation. Recent enhacements however would allow the use of such systems even in very complex cases. In this special interest symposium we will discuss in depth the advantages and the limitations of 27‐gauge vitrectomy systems and ways to improve our outcomes.
