Abstract
We proposed highly light efficient pancake Head Mounted Display (HMD) optics named “Double path pancake optics” last year, which has 1.8 times higher light efficiency than conventional one.While maintaining such high optical efficiency, this year, we have improved its productivity by replacing curved Reflective Polarizer (RP) with flat one. To realize a structure with flat RP, we have simulated optical concepts and finally found appropriate design. According to our optimized optical design, 25.5 mm thickness with 90 deg Field Of View (FOV) was realized and we have successfully made the prototype and confirmed that the high image quality can be displayed and optical properties are almost the same as our previous one with curved RP.
