Abstract

Penile incarceration with a foreign body is a rare urological emergency. Constricting rings, colloquially known as “cock rings”, are placed around the penis with or without the scrotum to add rigidity to an erection, or to delay orgasm. With prolonged placement, lymphovascular obstruction may occur, leading to complete strangulation. Without decompression, necrosis is the inevitable result and case reports of patients requiring significant debridement and even death can be found1. The material of these rings varies, and the urologist must be familiar with more than one technique for removal. We focus specifically on metal foreign bodies strangulating the genitalia and describe a safe and effective technique for removal. We retrospectively reviewed cases of metal foreign bodies involving the genitalia presenting to our level one trauma center between 2016 and 2018. Details were recorded about duration of strangulation and methods of removal based on emergency room and operative notes.
