Abstract

Capillaries are microvessels of 5〜8μm in diameter, and in the capillary vessels it is known that gas and mass exchanges playing an important role to live is done between red blood cells and tissue cells. Therefore study on blood flow in the capillaries is important. In order to clarify the blood flow in capillaries, we fabricated a realistic model of a capillary vessel inside a photosensitive glass plate by using a femtosecond laser microfabrication system. After exposure to focused fs laser beam, latent images are written inside a sample. Modified regions are developed by a postbaking process and then etched away in a 5% solution of hydrofluoric acid. As aresult, a microrube of about 10μm in diameter was successfully fabricated inside the photosensitive glass plate.
