Abstract

The inertia effects of oil-whip generated in full-circular oil film journal bearings were originally found by Pinkus. After this interesting reporting, several research workers tried to develop the theoretical and experimental studies on the phenomena. However, only a few papers can be available on this topics in the past several decades, and it is not yet clear the mechanism of inertia effects of oil-whip even in the present days. This report describes the experimental study of examining the inertia effects in full circular journal bearings lubricated under the submerged conditions relating with the visual observation of cavitation pattern.
