Abstract

The approach to suspected infection and fever in immunocompromised hosts differs from the approach in a normal host, both in terms of the potential pathogens as well as the clinical course. Examples include treatment of fever or suspected infection in patients with neoplastic diseases (particularly hematologic disorders such as leukemia and lymphoma), organ transplantation, and collagen vascular or autoimmune diseases.
