The title compound, C5H7NO5S, is an ester of methanesulfonic acid and N-hydroxysuccinimide in which the N atom has a flattened pyramidal geometry. The molecular arrangement is stabilized by C—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming double-layer sheets that are linked via short C=O...C=O carbonyl–carbonyl interactions to generate a three-dimensional network.
