Abstract

The influence of heart failure etiology on heart transplantation results specially for chagasic and ischemic etiology is not well determined. Clinical cases of heart failure due to chagasic etiology are increasing in developing countries such as USA and Canada. In addition heart failure due to chagasic etiology is epidemic in Latin-American. Chagas disease is an infectious disease that could reactivate and impair heart transplantation results. Ischemic etiology could influence the heart transplantation results due to frequent previous surgery or association of co-morbidities.The immunosuppression was cyclosporin-corticoesteroid-MMF based except for chagasic patients in the last few years (azathioprine replaced MMF).
