Abstract
The CARGO study developed and validated a gene expression test in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for 20 genes. The genes were derived from microarray analysis of genes whose expression increased or decreased as a result of rejection (R). The molecular test was compared to biopsy (Bx) and was able to discriminate the absence of R and immune quiescence from immune activation.
