25 Years of the Russian-German Commission of Historians: Some Results of Activity

Abstract

Science diplomacy has a great potential in internationalization of science, building and developing professional relations between scientists from different countries. The present study shows the history of formation and practical results of the Joint Commission for the Study of the Modern History of Russian-German Relations over the 25 years of its existence (1997—2022). The study of these issues allowed us to conclude that over the past 25 years historians of the two countries managed to achieve a high degree of mutual understanding and consensus in the preparation of joint research projects, which caused a positive public resonance in both Russia and Germany. This was a testament to the possibilities of scientific diplomacy in the dialog between the two countries.
