Abstract

Prevalence rates of anxiety disorders in preschool children are between 9.4 and 22%. Without treatment, anxiety disorders, even in preschool-aged children, are unlikely to remit. Despite the strong evidence for CBT in the treatment of anxiety disorders in children aged 8 years and older, there is no clear consensus on the best treatments for younger children. This Clinical Perspectives presentation describes anxiety disorders in children aged 4–7 years and current evidence-based treatments. It focuses on the Taming Sneaky Fears group CBT program, an evidence-based, manualized, 9-session program developed specifically for the treatment of anxiety disorders in children aged 4–7 years.
