Abstract

FDG-PET has been used in staging, restaging, and monitoring treatment response in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). To date changes in FDG uptake in normal tissues such as the esophagus and liver after radiation therapy (RT) have not been well described. Since the esophagus is an acutely responding tissue, we hypothesized that: 1) esophageal FDG activity changes during the course of fractionated RT, and 2) these changes may be associated with acute radiation esophagitis.
